Onitsuka Tigers are celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the theme for this collection is the year of the zodiac. Each sneaker in the line is somewhat inspired by an animal outside Zodiac calendar – print special techniques, special finishes and interesting designs can be found in every shoe in the collection.
Why Why the fuss? Well, in Japan a 60 is not a birthday, is a case of an event of major cultural importance that is loaded with symbolism. Persons under 60 years is an honor, celebrating having lived a full cycle of 60 years. The Japanese zodiac calendar is an ancient system originally conceived as a method of measuring time, and the definition of the characteristics of a person and their cycle of 60 years continues today. The first half of the collection (spring / summer) really brings the anniversary celebrations to life and has six drawings of animals, three created by Takeshi and three by Erik Kriek. The collection Fall / Winter continues the story of Zodiac, with the remaining six animals of the zodiac. Each coach comes in to buy a box of special edition and contains the trainer limited and a zodiac chart that tells you which sign is in relation to the year of birth, for example if you were born in 1977, which would be a snake.
The history of Onitsuka Tiger began with the initial establishment in early 1949 on the philosophy of educating youth through sport. Onitsuka has maintained a strong tradition of expertise in the manufacture of sports shoes using completely original ideas and applying epoch techniques only.
Onitsuka Tiger shoes have been popular in Japan for many years and have been growing strongly in the Western world.
